How to give a good presentation

A presentation is not only about presenting on the topic you are given, but also presenting yourself in an effective method in front of your viewers, judges or any audience. Creativity in forming slides, attaching pictures and videos are the major constituents of an interesting presentation. But apart from these, there are several other things which add up and are things which people usually don’t take into consideration. Dressing and communicating skills are these two things and they play a larger role.

First impression is the best impression. You can impress people by your dressing, because your appearance alone will earn you some points which at the start could be a stronger foundation or pillar for your presentation. Moreover, make the audience feel that you have something interesting with you and they would be eager to watch you present.

Body language, politeness and eye-contact are a few things which come under communicating skills.

The body language in this case refers to the way in which you present your information about the topic you have chosen in front of everyone. How effective is it? Through body language you can show the knowledge you have on the topic and also your involvement and dedication will be brought out.

By being polite you gain even more attention from your viewers, and also you should take enough time to explain about the ideas you present in front of them. Find out what things they really need to know, some amazing facts which would keep them from being bored. When you speak on general things that will be a normal one, so speaking on new things is definitely going to help. There will be situations in which you may find people not paying attention to you, that is the point where you should really be patient and continue with your presentation.

During the course of your presentation you should be capable enough to capture the minds of the viewers. And this is the point in which your eye contact is required. Through eye contact a strong bond is formed between you and the viewers and by this it informs them about your interest and pleasing behavior.

For a simple, good and a clear presentation these are the basic things which are required, and apart from this, the timing and a proper ending will raise your score even more.

  1. L, I think you should be a lecturer, a politician or a manager - definitely someone who needs to use his articulate presentation skills!

  2. Hi. Sri Lankans use WOULD in a drastically different way than Americans or others whose language is English. If you are entering the US program, please learn the proper function of WOULD.

  3. Keep up the good work Lidush. The most important thing is to keep practicing your English. The people who speak the best English are the ones who weren't afraid to make mistakes.
